5 Common Garage Door Problems & How To Fix Them

Garage doors are a common sight in many countries. They provide easy access to your garage and protect your car from the elements. But like any other piece of equipment, garage doors can experience problems from time to time. In this article, we will discuss 5 common garage door problems and how to fix them.

5 Common Garage Door Problems & How To Fix Them

1. Garage doors that make a lot of noise.

If your garage door is making a lot of noise, the first thing you need to do is lubricate the hinges and rollers. You can do this by using a spray lubricant or petroleum jelly. If that doesn’t work, then you might need to adjust the tension on the springs. To adjust the tension on the springs, loosen the bolts on each end of the spring and then turn the adjustment screws until the desired tension is reached. Be careful when doing this, as too much tension can be dangerous.

Finally, if all else fails, you might need to replace the springs. This should only be done by a professional garage door technician. Garage doors are very heavy and can cause serious injuries if they fall. If you’re not comfortable working on your garage door, it’s best to leave it to a professional.

2. Remote controls and wall switches are not functional.

This is a common problem that can be caused by a dead battery, corroded wiring, or a broken remote. To fix it, check the batteries in the remote control and replace them if necessary. If the wiring is corroded, clean it off and apply some dielectric silicone grease to help prevent future corrosion. If the remote isn’t working, try pressing the buttons closer to the sensor on the garage door opener. If the wall switch isn’t working, make sure that it’s properly plugged into an outlet and test another wall switch in another part of your house to see if it works. If you have tried all of these solutions and your garage door still isn’t opening or closing, it’s time to call a professional.

3. The garage door does not open and closes all the way.

This is often a safety issue, as the door could close on someone and injure them. Several things could cause this problem, such as a broken spring or cable. In most cases, it is best to call a professional to fix the problem. However, if you are comfortable with doing so, there are some things you can try yourself. First, check the cables to make sure they are properly connected to the drums on either side of the door.

If they are not connected properly, reconnect them. Next, check the springs to see if they are loose. If they are loose, tighten them using a wrench. Finally, lubricate all moving parts of the door using WD-40 or another type of lubricant. This may help the door to open and close more smoothly.

4. There are issues with the sensors.

One of the most common garage door problems is with the sensors. If they're not aligned properly, your door might not close all the way or it might open again while you're trying to close it. You can try adjusting them yourself, but if that doesn't work then you'll need to call a professional. If your sensors are dirty, then they won't be able to detect anything and so your door won't open or close.

In this case, you can either clean them yourself or take them in for cleaning. Another common problem with sensors is when they get wet. If there's water around them, then they won't be able to send an accurate signal and so the door might not function correctly. To fix this, you'll need to either move them to a dry area or get them replaced.

5. The door seals are loose and damaged.

If the door seals are loose and damaged, they can cause a lot of problems. The most common problem is that the heat or air conditioning will escape from your garage, which can be costly to fix. In addition, if it's cold outside and your garage is warm, the moisture in the air will condense on the ceiling of your garage, potentially causing water damage.

Finally, pests like rodents and spiders can easily enter your home through a loose seal. To fix this problem, you'll need to replace the seals on your garage door. This is a fairly easy do-it-yourself project that only takes a few hours. You can find replacement seals at most hardware stores. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, you can always hire a professional.
