From family-friendly destinations to thrilling outdoor adventures, Antioch has something for everyone. Here are our top three picks for things to do in this wonderful town!

1. Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve

Address: 5175 Somersville Road, Antioch, California 94509, United States

The East Bay Regional Park District is in charge of managing the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, which is a park that spans over 6,000 acres (2,400 hectares) and is situated in Contra Costa County, California, to the north of Mount Diablo. In 1973, the municipality became the owner of the property. The park is home to remnants of three different mining towns, as well as abandoned coal and sand mines, and it also provides tours of one of the abandoned sand mines. The sixty miles of trails in the Preserve travel across undulating foothill terrain that is covered with grassland, oak woodland, mixed evergreen forest, and chaparral.

History:

The Bay Area has been inhabited by indigenous people for 13,000 years, which predates the widespread ranching and mining that occurred there. In the areas surrounding the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, the Chupcan, Ompin, and Volvon were the three Bay Miwok tribes residing. The Chupcan inhabited territory west of the preserve at Concord, the Volvon occupied territory south of the preserve containing much of Mount Diablo, and the Ompin occupied territory north of the preserve encompassing Pittsburg, Collinsville, and the intervening river.

The Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is situated in a region that serves as a border between these three tribes. The Spanish mission system had a considerable influence on these three tribes around the beginning of the 19th century. The bulk of Volvon Bay Miwok were separated and baptized between 1804 and 1806 at either Mission Dolores or Mission San Jose. In 1804, a Spanish military raid forced the Chupcans to flee to Suisun territory. By 1811, the majority of the Chupcans had been separated and baptized at Mission Dolores or Mission San Jose. In 1810, a portion of the Ompin tribe moved to Mission Dolores, and in 1811 and 1812, the remainder of the tribe moved to Mission San Jose.

2. Contra Loma Regional Park

Address: 1200 Frederickson Lane, Antioch, California 94509, United States

The Contra Loma Regional Park is a regional park in Contra Costa County, California, and it spans an area of 780 acres (320 ha). It is a part of the system that encompasses the East Bay Regional Parks. It features a reservoir that spans 80 acres and can be found in the middle of the city of Antioch. The United States Bureau of Reclamation is in the process of revising the long-term plan for both the Contra Loma Regional Park and the Antioch Community Park, which are located near to one another. The plan that was in place before this one was drafted in 1975, which was before the population explosion that occurred in eastern Contra Costa County.

The Contra Costa Water District is the owner of the reservoir, which features both a bathing lagoon with lifeguards for use during the summer months and fishing access throughout the entire year. Those who wish to fish are permitted to do so, but they need to obtain a Daily Fishing Access Permit first. In addition, there is a charge for access. Catfish, bluegill, striped bass, and spotted bass as well as trout and redear sunfish can be found in the reservoir. Cycling is permitted here. In all areas of the park, consumption of alcoholic beverages is absolutely prohibited.

3. Antioch Bridge

Address: California, Antioch, Sacramento County, United States

The Antioch Bridge, also known as the Senator John A. Nejedly Bridge, is a bridge in the western region of the United States that is accessible by automotive, bicycle, and foot traffic. Antioch in Contra Costa County and Sherman Island in southern Sacramento County, near Rio Vista, are connected by this bridge, which spans the San Joaquin River-Stockton Deepwater Shipping Channel and is located in the northern part of the state of California.

The bridge is a component of State Route 160 and was named after John Nejedly, who served as a senator for the state. In contrast to the majority of other toll bridges in the state of California, it only possesses a single lane of traffic in each direction. It is one of the several bridges in the Bay area that, in addition to being passable by motorists, also allow pedestrians and bikes to cross it. The current bridge was finished being constructed 44 years ago, in 1978, and it opened to traffic in December of the same year. Its length is 1.8 miles.

History:

The original construction was finished in 1926 by the American Toll Bridge Company (Aven Hanford and Oscar Klatt), who also constructed the Carquinez Bridge's first span. The bridge was inaugurated as part of the coast-to-coast Victory Highway on January 1, 1926. In 1923, Hanford and Klatt, officials of the Rodeo-Vallejo Ferry Company, established the American Toll Bridge Company, which constructed the bridge at a cost over $2,000,000.

The Delta Bridge corporation was established in December 1922, but an Antioch bridge was never constructed. Delta Bridge acquired a construction license in June 1923.

When opened, the two 270-foot-long spans of the 1926 bridge gave a clearance of 70 feet below. Throughout its career, the original lift span bridge was plagued with issues. It was limited to 15 miles per hour for heavy traffic, and its small shipping channel caused collisions with freighters in 1958, 1963, and 1970.

2. How To Know When Your Garage Door Needs Repair In Antioch, California?

If you own a garage in Antioch, California and are having trouble with your garage door, then it’s time to call in a repair professional. But how do you know when it’s time to get help? Here are 5 tips on how to know when you need repairs done on your garage door in Antioch.

1. Your Door Makes A Lot Of Noise: If your garage door is making a lot of noise when it’s opening and closing, this can be an indication that something is wrong with the components on the door or the track itself. The first step to fixing this problem is to call in a professional repair person who can inspect the door and determine what the root of the problem is.

2. Your Door Isn’t Opening Or Closing: If your garage door doesn’t open or close at all, then this can be a sign that there’s something wrong with either the springs on the door or with one of the track components. A professional repair person can come out to your home and inspect the door for you to determine what the root of the problem is.

3. Your Door Freezes In Place: If your garage door becomes frozen in place, then there’s most likely a problem with either the power or track components on your garage door. A professional should inspect these components as soon as possible to determine what’s causing the door to freeze up.

4. Your Remote Is Not Working: If you find that your garage door doesn’t open or close when you use the remote, then there could be a battery issue with your remote control. It might simply need new batteries in order to function properly again.

5. Your Door Won’t Open: If your garage door won’t open, then there could be a problem with the lift mechanism of the garage door itself. A professional should come to your home and inspect it in order to figure out what exactly is going on with it. Once this problem has been identified, it’s easy for a repair person to fix it.

If you notice that your garage door needs repairs, then it’s important to call in a professional repair company as soon as possible in order to get the problem fixed and prevent any future damage from occurring.

3. What Are The Signs That You Need To Repair Your Garage Door In Antioch, California?

1. Rust Or Dents. If you notice rust forming on your garage door, especially around the hinges or near the bottom, this could mean that water is getting inside the structure of your door. Similarly, if you see any dents along the panels or frame of your door, this could be another sign of water damage, which can be a major problem.

2. Broken Panels Or Hardware. Over time, the various pieces that make up your garage door will slowly wear down, becoming more susceptible to breakage and damage. If you notice any of the panels on your door giving way or coming loose – or if you find that one of the hinges is broken – this is definitely something you should have repaired right away. Similarly, if any of the hardware components such as springs and cables aren’t functioning as they should be, it may be time for a new door altogether.

3. Uneven Gaps Between Panels. One surefire sign that there are problems with your garage door can easily be seen just by looking at the panels. If you notice that there are larger gaps between some of the panels than others, this could be a sign that your door is pulling away from its frame, or it may just have been improperly installed in the first place. Either way, this can leave a noticeable gap for unwanted pests to get in or animals to escape – not to mention greatly decrease the efficiency and safety of your door!

4. Signals From Sensors Not Working Properly. Last but certainly not least, it’s important to keep an eye out for any changes in how well your sensors are functioning. For instance, if one of them starts beeping repeatedly whenever you try to open or close your garage door, this is usually an indication of a sensor being misaligned. If left untreated, this can cause your garage door to stop working entirely, which is definitely not something you want happening!
